Juvenile Arthritis Family Day June 26, 2010 – Our third annual event drew both old and new families alike!  Parents had the opportunity to hear talks from renowned speakers Dr. Ross Petty and Dr. James Louie (who visited us from UCLA).  They also benefitted from a question and answer session with a young adult panel moderated by Vancouver Sun journalist Tiffany Crawford.  This year saw a more organized program for the younger children who enjoyed carnival games and a performance by “Cinema Zoo.”  The older children, in addition to games and arts and crafts, had a chance to see an arthritis puppet performance by Kids on the Block.  Our teens also had the chance to try out some yoga by Moksha Yoga.  Afterwards everyone feasted on a delicious BBQ put on by Vera’s Hamburgers at Locarno Beach.  Special thanks to AMGEN for sponsoring part of this event. Scotiabank Half Marathon and 5km Charity Challenge

June 27, 2010 – Once again it was a great day for a run.  Over 60 people, decked out in Cassie and Friends running shirts (sponsored by the Running Room), participated in the half marathon and 5km run.  Over $80,000 was raised by the team!  For the third time we were awarded one of the $5,000 prizes for the team raising the most funds.  Afterwards everyone was treated to not one, but 2 delicious cakes created especially for Cassie and Friends by Berliosca Cake Boutique (www.berliosca.com).  We even had the chance to meet Mason Raymond of the Vancouver Canucks.

Moving Forward for Women and Children Fundraiser

In 2010 local business women Lorna Stewart and Kathy MacKerricher held a fundraiser benefitting Cassie and Friends Fund for Children with Juvenile Arthritis.  The event which took place in October at La Rustica Restaurant in New Westminster included food, fashion, a Steel Band and dancing.  The evening was a huge success with over $7,800 raised to help Children with Juvenile Arthritis throughout British Columbia.  The cheque presentation was a heart-warming event with a cheque presented to David and Cassie Porte.  The huge cheque was bigger than Cassie!

Lake Country Fundraiser

In 2010 the Kiwanis Club of Lake Country held a fundraiser featuring dinner, a silent auction and musical entertainment to help raise money for Cassie and Friends.  The musical presentation was highlighted by Louise Boisvert singing a moving tribute song to her daughter Elise who suffers with Juvenile Arthritis.  The event raised over $1,750 to help children with Juvenile Arthritis across BC and helped raised awareness of this disease in the Okanagan.  

Tuesday’s are Karma Tuesdays at Bistrot Bistro

In April and May of 2008 Bistrot Bistro (1961 West 4th Ave) donated 5% of their Tuesday evening revenue to Cassie and Friends. Not only was almost $1000 in funds generated, but it was also a great opportunity to raise awareness of Juvenile Arthritis. Thank you to all those who came out and support us!
