Presenting a uniquely successful communication program that teaches children to appreciate disabilities and differences in others and themselves.
"Kids on the Block" is an international puppet program which has been in operation in the United States since 1977. It educates children about disabilities, social concerns, educational and medical differences. The puppet characters share important information with humour and sensitivity. At the end of each script children ask questions directly to the puppet characters allowing for a positive interactive experience.
Cassie and Friends held its debut performance of Kids on the Block at Vancouver Talmud Torah in January 2010. Our puppeteers performed four additional shows throughout the remainder of the 2010 school year. Performances are now available free of charge to schools across the Lower Mainland.
If you are interested in bringing the "Kids on the Block" arthritis performance to a school near you, please contact Debbie Setton at dsetton@shaw.ca . The program is most suitable for children in Kindergarten through Grade 3.
Testimonials:
“The Kids on the Block is a great way to teach and to learn about differences and what we have in common. [It] has made me more open minded. I don't judge people by how they look. I try to judge people by what's inside.”
Samantha - student puppeteer
“Dear Kids on the Block,
The first grade classes at Carrolltown School really enjoyed the puppeteers performance when you visited our school this month. The children in my class wrote letters to tell you what they liked about the program and what they learned from the characters. We hope you get a chance to come back again. It is a great program for children!
Sincerely, June”
